The Pratima Foundation, established in memory of the distinguished educator, writer, and social worker Pratima Devi, celebrated the second “Pratima Award Festival and Memorial Lecture 2024” today at Jaydev Bhawan in Bhubaneswar.
On this occasion, distinguished social worker, educator, and editorial board member Mr. Anil Pradhan was honored with the “Second Pratima Education Award 2024” for his significant contributions to the education of tribal children. Additionally, eminent Pattachitra artist, Shilpiguru Vijay Kumar Parija was honored with the “Second Pratima Artist Award 2024” for his contributions to traditional arts. The esteemed guests were presented with plaques, certificates, shawls, and a cash prize of 5000 rupees.
The festival, chaired by senior poet and journalist Kedar Mishra, had Dr. Gaurhari Das, editor of “Katha” magazine and a renowned writer, as the chief guest. He discussed the role of educators like Pratima Devi and the need to preserve traditional arts in society. The keynote speaker, young writer and researcher Dr. Shailen Rautaray, delivered the second Pratima Memorial Lecture titled “Whom to Ask? The School of Life and the Potential of Education in Odisha.” He shed light on Chittaranjan Das’s School of Life, alternative education, and the crucial role of teachers like Pratima Devi in contemporary times.
The event was coordinated by the famous actress Madhumita Mohanty. Sumitra Padhi, the managing trustee of the Foundation, outlined the organization’s objectives and discussed Pratima Devi’s life, stating that the award festival would continue to be held on her birthday every year on May 4th. The event concluded with prominent poet and columnist Pavitra Mohan Kar giving the vote of thanks. The festival was attended by numerous literary figures, educators, and artists from Bhubaneswar and beyond, making it a successful event.
